MTN FA Cup Awards tomorrow

Season three of the MTN FA Cup Awards scheduled for the Banquet Hall of the State House tomorrow night promises to be as intriguing as the third edition of the competition itself with Ambassador Kabral Blay-Amihere steering affairs as the Special Guest of Honour.

This is going to be the last of MTN’s initial three-year romance with the prestigious tournament won by Medeama Sporting Club, and could easily see the telecommunication giants putting up a memorable show to signal their intention to keep the deal with the FA going.

As usual, the cream of Ghana soccer administrators, including the FA Cup chairman himself, Lepowura M.N.D. Jawula, will again assemble to celebrate excellence and the introduction of the just-appointed Kotoko Board member, Mr Blay-Amihere, who doubles as the chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC). This provides a clue about the rich list of dignitaries who will be on parade.

For the categories, Rashid Sumaila, Godfred Rockson, Kwabena Edusei and Emmanuel Ofori will be vying hotly for the best defender award in the same way coaches David Duncan, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani Tony Lokko and cup-winning Evans Adotey are desperately contesting for the best coach prize.

Referees Joseph Lamptey, John Atikese, Samuel Gyasi and Otis Oppong are in line for the top referee award, while Ibrahim Adams, Ashitey Armah, Safo Adade and Shine Ayitey are eyeing the assistant referee award.

The nominees for the best match commissioner award are Omar Teni, Linear Addy and Warrant Officer Amo, with Maxwell Ashirifi (Nania FC) and Robert Ghansah of Eleven Wise qualifying for the Top Scorer award.

Losing finalists, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, will console themselves with the highest scoring club honours.
