Medeama SC have ransacked the local transfer market, roping in four new stars, including Hearts of Oak’s James Abban, as the Tarkwa-based side make early preparations for an audacious debut in Africa.
Abban, a striker who never reached the form he enjoyed before transfering from Liberty Porfessionals to their cross city rivals, is joined by midfielder Malik Akowuah from AshantiGold, attacking midfielder Kwame Boahene from Liberty and goalkeeper Adade Foli from Ebusua Dwarfs in Medeama’s new assemblage.
But beyond their pursuit of continental honour, Medeamab are also targeting the Premier League title to fulfil a potential that eluded them in the closing stages of last season.
“We want to make an impact in Africa, but the league title is also a big target,” deputy chief executive Albert Commey told Graphic Sports in an interview yesterday.
Despite his almost unnoticeable spell at Hearts, Abban’s vision and anticipation as a striker could benefit his new side which slumped from main title hopefuls to mere contenders at the final bend of the last season.
Following his release by Hearts by mutual consent at the close of last season, he remains a free agent, but Mr Commey said only small details of personal terms remained to be finalised between the club and the player.
Similarly, rasta-haired Akowuah, a prominent midfield figure even from his days with Accra Great Olympics, could be a priceless addition to the Medeama set-up.
The midfielder is also joining Medeama for free after he acquired floating status from the FA at the close of last season.
