Liberty Professionals yesterday proved too strong for Hearts of Oak in the First Capital Plus Premier League as they comfortably beat the Phobians by three goals to one at the Carl Reindolf Park at Dansoman.
Hearts goalkeeper, Philemon McCarthy’s injury in the 13th minute can be said to be a contribution to their loss even though he conceded the first goal on the 45th minute before bowing out for Kingsley Kissy.
Michael Appiah’s goal in the 45th minute was enough for Liberty in the first half after the 21-year-old dribbled rushing Philemon McCarthy and slotted home.
Frimpong Tuffour made it two nil for the hosts on the 49th minute heading home a corner to put the team above the visitors.
Ashitey Ollenu pulled one back for the visitors after he had combined with Winful Cobinnah in a one-two pass on the 64th minute to make the scoreline 2-1.
The Phobians looked destined to get an equaliser as they piled on pressure on the hosts but wasted opportunities by Cobinnah and Maxwell Boakye in 89th minute caused them their defeat.
The loss leaves Hearts trailing leaders Kotoko by nine points even though the Porcupine Warriors drew 1-1 with Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.
• Donald Ato Dapatem reports from Kumasi that King Faisal yesterday beat visiting Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 to secure the three maximum points in their premier league match at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
After surviving an early scare by Dwarfs, Samuel Moyah shot Faisal ahead in the 44th minute after connecting a neat pass from Tetteh Nortey.
And just on the stroke of half-time, Frederick Boateng took advantage of the indecision by the Faisal defenders and the goalkeeper to cancel the lead for Dwarfs.
With just a minute to end the game, Faisal’s Frederick Osei exhibited dexterity by firing home a 25-yard shot to secure victory for the homesters.
