Emmanuel Clottey

‘Kotoko not dealing with Clottey’

Champion club, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, say they are unaware of a move by former local goalking and Berekum Chelsea arrowhead, Emmanuel Clottey, to don their colours.

Clottey, 27, is rumoured to have expressed interest in re-launching his career with  the Porcupine Warriors to play a part in the club’s Africa Champions League campaign.

But the CEO of Kotoko, Opoku Nti, told  Graphic Sports the club had not received any official communication from either the 2007 goalking or his agents and therefore, considered it as mere rumour.

“In any case, even if he decides to play for Kotoko, it is not going to be for free. I don’t think we have money to engage any player at the moment,” he stressed.

Clottey played a key role in Berekum Chelsea’s qualification to the money zone in their maiden appearance in the CAF Champions League in 2012 and, subsequently, joined Tunisian giants, Esperance de Tunis.

He is currently on loan to Al Dhafra, a contract which expires at the end of the season.

Despite the financial constraints facing the Porcupine Warriors, Opoku Nti did not rule out the rumours completely, saying “in Kotoko, people have a way of going around issues.”
