John Pantsil granted bail
Black Stars Deputy Captain John Pantsil was granted bail on Friday night after he was invite He is expected to report at the Police Station for further interrogation on Monday, the police have said. The incident followed a complaint lodged by a man with the Legon
Police that he (complainant) had attempted to rescue Mrs Richlove Pantsil from
being harmed by her husband in the afternoon of Friday. On arrival at the police station, Pantsil, who was said to
be accompanied by two friends was asked to write his statement and go through
the process. An officer at the station confirmed the story to the Daily
Graphic and said Pantsil had been invited to the station for interrogation,
while the police carried out preliminary investigations in to the complaint, as
there were conflicting accounts of the incident. News of the arrest of Pantsil, a defender in the Black Stars
team attracted a small crowd to the Legon Police Station as curious people,
mostly young men, thronged the place to see if the famous footballer had indeed
been arrested and brought in there. The initial story was that the Israel-based player had
engaged in a scuffle with his wife at their home at Trasacco Valley at East
Legon and in the process, stabbed her. It said an attempt by a Good Samaritan to rescue Mrs Pantsil
from further harm resulted in the complainant receiving a few slaps from the
footballer. The police said they had also received reports that Mrs
Pantsil had collapsed as result of the alleged stabbing and had been rushed to
a nearby hospital where she was receiving treatment. However, Mrs Pantsil later called the Legon Police with the message
that the issue had been blown out of proportion. In an interview with an Accra based radio station – Joy FM,
she said she was all right and that she was on her way to the Legon Police
Station to sort the issue out. She denied that she had been stabbed by her husband and
described what happened between the two as “a small marital issue”. Mrs Pantsil, clearly worried about the bad press the issue
was likely to receive, pleaded with the radio station not to publish anything
and asked the station to believe her story, not the account given by the police
to the same radio station. “Its nothing serious; just a small issue between us and I’m
all right. I’m on my way to the police station to talk to them. Please don’t
publish anything. Don’t do anything that will spoil my marriage”, she pleaded. This is the second time in the week that the long-serving
Stars defender had been embroiled in some controversy. Earlier in the week, he was alleged to have taken some
prostitutes to the Stars’ camp while on duty at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
(AFCON) in South Africa in January. He vehemently denied that allegation and the Ghana Football
Association (GFA) earlier Friday issued a press statement to deny the claims
that prostitutes had invaded the team’s camp during the AFCON in South Africa.
