Heroic welcome for Satellites as Minister promises team outstanding bonuses

The Black Satellites returned home last Wednesday after winning silver in the just-ended Africa Youth Championship in Algeria to a rousing welcome by a high-powered delegation led by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, and included GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, other FA officials and hundreds of cheering supporters groups.

The Satellites contingent was led on arrival by the chairman of the Satellites Management Committee, George Afriyie, and was received at the Kotoka International Airport by the minister and the GFA boss.

Mr Afriyie briefed the minister and the welcome team about the tournament and said they went to Algeria optimistic about winning the continental trophy considering the amount of work invested in  pre-tournament preparations in Italy and Spain.

He said despite the many challenges they were confronted with, they remained more focused on the ultimate prize but regretted their inability to deliver the trophy as promised and gave an assurance that they would compensate for it at the FIFA World Youth Cup in Turkey later this year.

However, the Minister lauded the team’s performance and expressed delight in the quality of games they played in Algeria, saying the players exhibited true fighting spirit and had brought pride to the nation.

He urged the players and  the technical handlers to remain calm as he promised to expedite work on all outstanding allowances and bonuses owed them by the state for their exploits.
