Dwarfs dismantle Olympics

Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs became the giant killers of the week when they handed Accra Great Olympics a 4-1 defeat at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Determined to return to winning ways after their 1-2 defeat to Berekum Chelsea last week, Coach Ernest Thompson Quartey of Dwarfs used Razak Issah as the goalkeeper instead of Dennis Nkrumah Korsah and introduced Leventus Arthur, Mark Acquah and Eliah Kofi Jnr into the starting line-up.

The introduction of the four players into the game buoyed the fighting spirit of Dwarfs and added tonic into their attacking machinery, making it difficult for Olympics to cope with their superb ball controls, speed, interposition passes and accurate shooting.

Olympics, however, managed to ward off all attacks of Dwarfs until the 26th minute when they caved in.

In one of their attacks, Kofi Jnr’s intelligent pass in the area of Olympics found defender Simon Martey who had surged deep into the visiting side's half and wasted no time in blasting the ball home to break the deadlock.

Kofi Jnr added his name to the score sheet in the 43rd minute to end the half 2-0 in favour of Dwarfs who continued attacking mercilessly after the break, forcing Olympics to chase their opponents' shadows.

Olympics beyond recovery

In the 48th minute, midfielder Michael Ohene Asamoah split open the defence of Olympics after receiving a pass from Arthur to score the third goal for Dwarfs, before substitute Enoch Afram put the game beyond recovery in the 88th minute with a beautiful goal.

In added-on time, Olympics skipper Gladson Awako scored a consolation goal for his side as they slipped to the third position on the league log.

 Medeama jab Kotoko

At the Obuasi Len Clay stadium last Saturday, Tarkwa-based Medeama SC came from behind to stun Kumasi Asante Kotoko with a 2-1 victory to topple Kotoko from the top position of the league log.

It was the first loss suffered by Kotoko under the direction of their Portuguese head coach, Mariano Barreto.

Incidentally, it was Kotoko who delivered the first blow in the 12th minute when skipper Emmanuel Gyamfi pounced on Imoro Ibrahim's cross to hit the back of the net.

The early goal galvanised Medeama into action as they turned the heat on Kotoko with their goalkeeper, Razak Abalora, rising to the occasion by making brilliant saves to prevent Medeama from coming at par.

Coach Yaw Preko's side continued attacking from all angles and succeeded in drawing parity in the 30th minute through Prince Opoku Agyemang who connected Tetteh Zutah’s pass with a low shot which caught Abalora flat-footed.
Medeama midfielder Richard Boadu became the hero for his side when his calculated shot from a distance took a deflection and hit the back of the net before Abalora could react.

Wayo, Amadu win day for Liberty

A goal in each half by Liberty Professionals duo of Abraham Wayo and Adamu Amadu handed them a 2-0 victory against Berekum Chelsea the WAFA Park at Sogakope on Saturday, as the scientific Soccer lads continue their explosive start to the second round of the league with three straight victories.

Wayo broke the deadlock as early as the sixth minute after outwitting his markers midway into the half of Chelsea.

A 79th minute goal by Adamu guaranteed maximum points for Liberty who are fighting their way out of the relegation zone.
