The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has assured Black Stars trainer, Kwasi Appiah that his tenure as coach was secured even after the World Cup. The assurance came on the heels of a two-year contract extension for Appiah ahead the World Cup, much against a widely held opinion that it could be abrogated if the coach’s performance fell below expectation at the mundial.
But Nyantakyi, in an interview with the Graphic Sports last Wednesday, allayed those fears insisting that irrespective of the outcome of Ghana’s performance, the coach would still keep his job.
“Unless it is demonstrably clear that we flopped because of his incompetence and his contributions to the game caused our defeat, he said, about conditions that could occasion an abrogation of the contract.
“If, for instance, in a match he used Asamoah Gyan as the goalkeeper and Kwarasey as a striker and have John Boye playing at the right side of midfield and that made us to flop badly at the tournamed, then it is obvious he contributed to our defeat,” he added.
The FA president prayed that the coach would be courageous enough to select his final 23 players based on performance and not by sheer names.
