The CAF Referees Committee has handed Mauritius referee Seechurn Rajindrapasard a six-month ban for poor performance after a review of the Tunisia vs. Equatorial Guinea quarter final game at the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations.
The match played on January 31, 2015 in Bata, saw the hosts level up one-all with a controversial penalty. Equatorial Guinea went on to win the game 2:1 to advance to the semi-finals where they play Ghana’s Black Stars.
A press statement issued by CAF said the Referees Committee at its extraordinary meeting Equatorial Guinea on the 2nd February, 2015 noted “with regret the poor performance of the referee during the match, including an unacceptable failure to maintain calm and ensure proper control of the players during the match.”
Apart from his suspension, Seechurn Rajindrapasard has been suspended as a referee for the Orange AFCON 2015, while CAF has decided to delist him from the CAF “A” Elite Referees panel.
Other decisions by the Referees Committee include the imposition of a fine of US$50,000 on the Tunisian football federation for the insolent, aggressive and unacceptable behaviour of the players and officials of the Tunisian team during the said game and condemned the conduct of Mr. Wadie Jary, president of the Tunisian federation and member of the Organising Committee of the AFCON.
