AshantiGold have confirmed their participation in next year's CAF Confederation Cup after they were given the green light by the club’s board of directors to take part in the continent’s second-tier clubs competition.
The directors and key stakeholders, at a meeting at Obuasi yesterday, approved of the club's participation in the continental competition, after finishing fourth in last season’s First Capital Plus Premier League.
Earlier in the week, doubt was cast over the Soccer Miners’ participation in the competition after media reports suggested financial difficulties had compelled the club’s officials to consider a withdrawal.
However, AshantiGold CEO, Kudjoe Fianoo, confirmed to the Daily Graphic yesterday that he had been given the go-ahead to prepare the club for the continental campaign.
He said after carefully weighing all options, the club’s parent company, Anglogold-Ashanti, agreed to foot the bills for the club's representation in Africa.
