Embattled Ashantigold are contemplating going for a review following the dismissal of their case by the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Only yesterday, a six-man committee, presided over by the vice-chairman, Mr Emmanuel Effah Annan, considered the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to declare Ashantigold losers of the abortive MTN FA Cup quarter-final match against Asante Kotoko as sound in line with GFA Statutes and Regulations.
The GFA Disciplinary Committee had earlier upheld a Kotoko protest and declared Ashantigold guilty of failing to honour the April 13, 2014 match at the Accra Stadium, despite being impressed upon by the FA to do so.
Reacting to the Appeals Committee’s ruling in an interview with the Daily Graphic yesterday, a dissatisfied Chief Executive of Ashgold, Kudjoe Fianoo, did not hide the club’s intention to go for a review.
“We’re going to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion. We have 72 hours to file for a review and we are talking to our lawyers,” Fianoo disclosed.
According to Fianoo, in spite of everything he is at least happy that the appeal has brought about a recommendation that would address similar incidents in the future.
As part of the three-point ruling, the Appeals Committee said, “however, it is recommended that should a similar situation arise in the future, the GFA should endeavour to engage the away team, particularly with regard to financial outlays and logistical concerns of the away team, to build consensus before deciding on a new venue for the match.”
The Ashgold CEO said he was not surprised about how the ruling went because he got a wind of it after hearing of the advanced preparations for Sunday’s semi-final between Asante Kotoko and King faisal at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The winner of the much-awaited derby on Sunday will play Inter Allies in the grand finale at the Accra Stadium at a later date.
