Still bitter about the way the Ghana Football Association(GFA) has handled their concerns in the raging F.A. Cup controversy, Ashgold are considering a petition to the association’s appellate system to quash a one-year ban imposed on them for boycotting their quarter-final tie with Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The Disciplinary Committee of the GFA on May 20, 2014 banned Ashgold for failing to honour the FA quarter-final match against Kotoko.
A letter signed by Kwame Takyi, vice charman of committee, in accordance with Article 14(4) of the GFA Regulations, stated that “Ashantigold shall not be allowed to enter the FA Cup competition for next season.”
Speaking to the Graphic Sports, Kudjoe Fianoo, CEO of Ashgold, explained that the decision to appeal against the ban was inspired by the club’s legal counsel who wanted the club to exhaust all the grievance resolution processes at the FA before it considered a legal option.Ashgold had lost an appeal against the decision to declare them losers of the said game and subsequently their review application to the case was thrown out under circumstances they described as “very bizzare”.
According to Mr Fianoo, that action only exposed the height of dishonesty in the administration of the game in the country.
“The FA wants everybody to believe that it sat on the review application we filed at 4pm last Friday, barely 48 hours before it sanctioned the King Faisal-Asante Kotoko game at the Baba Yara Stadium,” he lamented.
“If so why did it announce the cancellation of the same match on Sunday which was carried on the association’s website and CAF online?,” he questioned.
