After weeks of speculations, Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah is expected to finally release a 25-man squad today for Ghana’s 2014 World Cup in Brazil next month.
The event is expected to be preceded by a second round of meeting with other key stakeholders of the game, the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association, this morning after which Coach Appiah would make his announcement to
kick-start a month-long preparations ahead of the World Cup campaign.
Last Friday, the Stars technical team, according to an umimpeachable source, had a meeting with the Black Stars Management Committee to discuss key issues relating to the final squad, key among them being the issues of injuries.
For some time now injuries had threatened Coach Appiah’s plans for the World Cup with the likes of Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Dede Ayew and Isaac Vorsah being the hardest hit until recently when Essien, Dede and Sulley were reported to have recovered and started featuring for their clubs.
The injuries issue according to the source, was the main concern of the Stars Management Committee.
Already, Brazil’s coach, Felipe Scolari, last week took the lead to name his final 23-man squad, while others notably, Stephen Keshie, head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, followed with the announcement of a 30-man squad barely 24 hours later.
Even though Coach Appiah has been allowed to keep the list close to his chest, sources say the list will unleash some surprises.
But it will certainly include, goalkeepers Adam Kwarasey and Fatau Dauda, Samuel Inkoom, Harrison Afful, John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Agyemang Badu, Kwadwo Asamoah, Christian Atsu, Rabiu Mohammed, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Andre Dede Ayew, Abdul Majeed Waris and Asamoah Gyan.
