According to him, sports associations and their affiliates in the country must partner  the government while the state contributes to find financial solutions to the needs of sports.

“There is a new paradigm, sports is now a business; therefore, it is important for various sporting associations to partner the government to move sports to the highest level,” he stated.

Mr Afriyie-Ankrah said this when he hosted boxers Emmanuel Tagoe and Richard Oblitey Commey and some kick-boxers to a lunch last Wednesday at the Tip-Top Restaurant in Accra.

He said he was committed to developing all sporting disciplines, and praised the sportsmen for their exploits and making the nation proud.

He reiterated that the government would build a boxing gym in Bukom, which he recognised as the heart of boxing in the country, but was quick to add that the facility would come at a cost to patrons and organisers.

“It is not going to be free, however, trainees would be granted some exemption, but organisers and patrons would have to pay if they want to use the gym,” he stressed.
