Brook plots clash with Khan

Kell Brook will make a first defence of his IBF world welterweight in his home city of Sheffield on March 28 with plans to face Amir Khan this summer.

Undefeated Brook, 28, had to scrap a first defence last December after he was stabbed in the leg while on holiday in Tenerife two weeks after he won the world title on points against Shawn Porter in America last August.

An opponent will be named next week, with Brook's mandatory challenger Ionut Dan Ion and former champion Paulie Malignaggi being possibles for the fight at the Motorpoint Arena. Ion is a Canada-based Romanian (34-2) while Malignaggi has lost to Ricky Hatton and Khan.

Brook's next fight will be part of a pay-per-view event that will have Carl Froch's world super-middleweight title defence against Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas as its main event. Nottingham's IBF-WBA champion Froch, 37, says negotiations are "nearly there' in securing his first fight in the world's fight capital.

Jamie McDonnell, Doncaster's WBA bantamweight champion, will face Japan's WBO king Tomoki Kameda in a world title unification clash on the same Vegas bill as Froch. Hopes of Brook and Bolton's former world light-welterweight champion Khan meeting this year will be boosted if the fight boxing has waited five years to make gets made.

Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, boxing's pound-for-pound top two, have reportedly agreed the venue - MGM Grand in Las Vegas - and the drug testing has also been resolved for a fight that would be the richest in boxing history.
