She polled 51 out 61 valid votes cast, representing 84 per cent  of the votes.

Mrs Awatey is the Assembly Woman for Adjikpo Electoral Area and also a tutor of Yilo Krobo Senior High School at Somanya.

The election was conducted by the Yilo Krobo Municipal Electoral Officer, Ms Patience Baddoo.

Earlier, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Andrews Sodah,  urged the assembly members to have the progress of the municipality at heart to elect the Presiding Member without any delay.

He explained that this was because the Presiding Member had a very important role to play in the development agenda of the assembly.

The MCE briefed the assembly members on government directives on fire outbreaks and street naming, and urged them to educate their constituents, especially on fire outbreaks.

Mrs Awatey expressed gratitude to her colleagues for the confidence reposed in her to lead them for  the next two years.

She said there were many development projects that the assembly needed to complete,  and  that having been retained, she would fast-track those activities.

“Once you had confidence in me and retained me, I shall also be committed to the work of the assembly and your welfare as well,” she stressed.

The Presiding Judge of the Somanya Magistrate’s Court, Mr K.A. Mensah,  swore her into office.
