In the first round of voting, Mr Timpo-Ofori secured 26 out of the 43 valid votes cast,  which fell short of five of the 31 two-thirds majority for him to emerge victorious in the polls.

However, in the second round of voting, Mr Timpo-Ofori had 36 out of the 45 valid votes cast to clinch victory.

By his victory, Mr Timpo-Ofori is to serve another two-year term.

The Asamankese District Magistrate, Mr Ansah-Awuah, who swore in Mr Timpo-Ofori last Tuesday, administered both the official oath and the oath of secrecy.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Timpo-Ofori thanked his colleague assembly members for the confidence reposed in him.

He also appealed to them to collaborate with him to speed up the development of the municipality.

Later in his sessional address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr George Mensah Akpalu, said  that last year the assembly generated a total revenue of GH¢4,305,112,   representing 97 per cent of the expected revenue.

He said the total expenditure for the year was GH¢3,456,524 as against the budgeted  GH¢4,465,251.

Mr Akpalu, however, stated that the assembly overspent monies on government salaries as the assembly had no control over the situation.

He said for the past two years, one area that had been contributing immensely to the assembly’s revenue was the Functional and Organisational Assessment Tool (FOAT) and it should not be overlooked in the 2013 assessment that was likely to come into effect this month.

The MCE noted with satisfaction that the assembly had for the second time qualified for the Urban Development Grant (UDG) from which the assembly was to benefit $558,653.04.

He announced that the National Health Insurance Authority had decided to construct a two-storied office complex for the municipal secretariat of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Asamankese for which the assembly had completed the necessary documentation on the construction of the project.
