Vice President Bawumia breaks silence on falling cedi (video)

The Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government welcomes the debate on the depreciation on the cedi.

According to him, the current depreciation of the cedi is not same as a result of the weak economic fundamentals experienced under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, but the strengthening of the dollar by the United States (US) government.

That, he said has not only affected the Ghanaian cedi but all other major international currencies including the Pound Sterling.

He, however, gave the assurance that the government would work hard to ensure the cedi stabilised against the dollar.

"When the cedi depreciates against the dollar it gives much concerns to the business community but the government is working to stabilise the cedi," he said.

Vice President Bawumia was speaking at the launch of the School Entrepreneurship Initiative (SEI) programme in Tamale on Friday.

The SEI is aimed at building entrepreneurship mindset among students in Senior High School (SHS) at the Assembly Hall of the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale.

It is the hope of government that when students are exposed to business concepts and plans at an early age, there is a tendency for them to think entrepreneurial and begin to develop products and services while in school.
