He expressed optimism that although he was confident the NDC would win the election, it must not remain complacent but take the votes of all party supporters in the country to secure the much needed emphatic one-touch victory.

Call on chief

Mr Amissah-Arthur made the appeal when he addressed separate rallies in communities in the Gambaga-Nalerigu, Bunkpurugu and Yunyoo constituencies on the second day of his four-day campaign tour of the Northern Region last Wednesday.

The first port of call was the palace of the Paramount Chief of the Pamprugu Traditional Area, Abdulai Mahami Sheriga II, at Gambaga where the Vice-President, together with his campaign team, paid a courtesy call on him to seek his blessings ahead of the campaign.

The chief advised the leaders of the various political parties to speak to their followers to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during the electioneering period.

He described President John Mahama and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who hail from the area as his sons and as such wished them well in their respective campaigns.

The Vice-President gave an assurance that the NDC would continue to urge its followers to conduct themselves well and added that what the NDC sought to do was to forcefully debunk claims made by its opponents against the NDC to set the records straight.

He introduced the NDC parliamentary candidate for Gambaga-Nalerigu, Alhaji Baaba Seidu Issifu, to the traditional authorities and urged them to support him to retain the seat for the party.

Bunkprurugu Constituency

The campaign trail headed to Nakpanduri in the Bunkprurugu Constituency and called on Nakpanduri Naba, David Kansuk, where Mr Amissah-Arthur introduced the NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, Dr Anthony Gingong, to the gathering.

The constituency is currently being held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The chief commended the government for the many infrastructure projects it had brought to the area and particularly for brokering lasting peace between the Bimobas and Komkombas.

He, however, among other things requested for a small town water system, a community health nursing training college and a road to link Badimsuguru to Boaguri and Boaterigu.

Mr Amissah-Arthur assured the chief that his requests would be considered. At a mini-rally to address NDC supporters he urged them to retain President John Mahama to guarantee them continuity of development.

Yunyoo Constituency

Next was Nasun in the Yunyoo Constituency where the NDC campaign trail made a case for the retention of the NDC in power.

The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, cautioned the people not to be deceived by the juicy promises being made by the NPP.
