The District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, who announced this at the assembly meeting at Asesewa, the district capital at the weekend, was appreciative of the figure and indicated that by the end of the year, 95 per cent of the budgeted sum would have been collected.

To him, the internally generated fund would be supported with the assembly’s first quarter share of the Common Fund of GHȻ270,165.75 which was released at the end of September to undertake a number of development projects in the district.

The Upper Manya Krobo District, was carved out of the vast Manya Krobo District six years ago.

Social amenities

Its creation, as expected, started yielding good results in terms of the provision of social amenities such as water, electricity, modern school buildings and clinics in many of the communities, as well as the rehabilitation of a number of roads to link the communities.

However, Mr Angmor said a lot more needed to be done for the communities not yet provided with such amenities and that the assembly would continue with its development agenda to ensure that all the communities would have “their share of the national cake by the end of 2016”.

To this end, he indicated that a number of projects such as the rehabilitation of the Asesewa Market, reshaping 173.2 kilometres of roads, as well other projects currently under construction would be completed within the next three years.

Apart from the provision of social amenities, the assembly had also taken the initiative to support those living below the poverty line to make a living by disbursing a total of GH¢21,814 to 159 of such unfortunate persons from Asesewa, Sekesua and Anyaboni and their environs.

Pupil teachers

With regards to the poor performance of pupils at the BECE, Mr Angmor expressed regret that such a situation still persisted and blamed it on the large number of pupil teachers in the area whose caliber in teaching were appalling.

He, however, was hopeful that a way would be found to address the issue.

Street naming

On street naming, Mr Angmor told the house that the exercise was underway and asked the people to furnish the assembly with names of individuals who merited being associated with such landmarks.
