‘Uphold high professional military standards’

A Former Commanding Officer of the Ghana Military Academy, Major General Henry Anyidoho, has advised military personnel to continue to uphold the high professional standards of the institution.  He further advised them to always act within the confines of the law, with the overall aim of advancing the national interest. “Discipline, loyalty and professionalism remain virtues that will continue to make the military a unique institution,” he said.

Speaking at the annual West Africa Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) of the Defence Signal Corps of the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp last Friday, Major General Anyidoho said, “upholding these virtues will make it possible for the population to continue to trust that the military will act in their interest at all times.”

The event brought together military personnel of the regiment and their families to socialise and take stock of the progress and challenges facing the corps.  It was also used to honour selected personnel who had distinguished themselves at the unit.

Emulate predecessors

Major General Anyidoho stated that the Defence Signal Corps had a rich history of dedicated and professional officers, men and women who had contributed immensely to national developmental efforts in various capacities.

“The corps has produced seasoned professional soldiers, renowned peacekeepers, high-ranking diplomats and politicians; just to mention a few.

“It is, therefore, proper to encourage you the serving personnel to continue the good works your predecessors bequeathed to you and to further establish the rich history of our corps,” he stated.

Develop yourselves

Major General Anyidoho also stated that today’s warfare had advanced, with advancement in technology bringing along cyber warfare.  He said such sophisticated weaponry and technology required smarter and well-trained handlers.

“You must, therefore, develop yourselves individually and collectively to take advantage of available technologies and provide the GAF with effective modern communication for command, control and administration,” he advised.

Call for unity

The veteran UN peacekeeping officer also advised the military personnel to work as a team and “put behind them, petty squabbles and illogical rivalries”.

“You must forge a united front that can be relied upon,” he told them, urging them to remain faithful to God, Ghana, each other and their families.

For his part, the Director of Communications of the Corps Signal of the GAF, Col A. Alobawone, mentioned acute accommodation as one major challenge facing personnel of the regiment and appealed for support.
