Supreme Court awaits KPMG report

Justice William AtugubaThe Supreme Court hearing the on-going election petition has taken a long adjournment to allow auditing firm, KPMG to complete its work of auditing the pink sheets  which have been served as evidence by the petitioners challenging the results of the December 2012 presidential election.

The court’s ruling is based on a report from the court registrar that KPMG had requested for a week and some days in order to present the court with its final report on the audited pink sheets.

Based on that report, the bench, presided over by Justice William Atuguba reminded lead counsel for the petitioners, Mr Philip Addison, that the bench had accepted his notice of a half day proceedings for today (Thursday) which he served the court yesterday.

Justice Atuguba asked that Mr Addison brings his cross examination to an end in order for the court to proceed onto the “famous pink sheet report.”

A request, Mr Addison refused to accept on the basis that they (petitioners) “”have been limited by these pink sheets that objections have been raised on so and so forth,” thus they cannot say that they have ended their cross examination.

He told the court that he was not done with the non-pink sheet matters except that those that will come will come after he had dealt with the pink sheets.

Mr Addison further prayed the court to allow him to continue his cross examination of Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission on issues regarding the voter’s register which the second respondent promised to make available to the court today.

The court however adjourned sitting to Monday, June 24, 2013.

The KPMG pink sheets auditing was occasioned by a request by counsel for the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, who told the court that he had not been served with as many pink sheets as claimed by the petitioners.

The three petitioners are Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party presidential candidate in the 2012 elections, his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and party chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi.
