PPP targets 10 parliamentary seats

The Progressive People's Party (PPP) is targeting a parliamentary seat in each of the 10 regions of Ghana. Consequently, the party has decided to use the last three weeks to the election to hit its strongest constituencies in each of the 10 regions as it rounds up the 2016 electioneering.

Some of the strongholds PPP is expecting to win parliamentary seats are, Komenda, Tarkwa, Akyem Swedru, Ahafo Ano North and Dabala-South Tongu in the Central, Western, Eastern, Ashanti and Volta regions respectively.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after his campaign tour of the Central Region, the flag bearer of the PPP, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, said he was certain that at least a minimum of 10 parliamentary candidates of the PPP would make it to Parliament next year.

"I have no doubt that in January 2016,  we will have at least 10 PPP Members of Parliament in Ghana," he said.

Wasted vote campaign

Dr Nduom has, in the past months, toured all the 10 regions to campaign for votes ahead of the December 7 polls.

The campaign took him and his executives to 170 constituencies.

In all the constituencies visited, Dr Nduom paid courtesy calls on all the chiefs and elders of the community, held rallies, interacted with supporters, and spoke to tertiary students and market women.

He also used the occasion to open more branches of his company, GN Bank.

During the campaign tour, dubbed: "Wasted votes," Dr Nduom told the electorate that any vote that was cast for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2012 election was a wasted vote because President John Mahama failed to live up to expectation.

He reminded the people of the need to change the direction of their votes in this year's election, saying that "a vote for any party besides the PPP was a wasted vote.”

According to Dr Nduom, Ghana needed a leader that would not take the people for granted as the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had done in the past.

"Ghanaians deserve honest and competent leaders who will not play with their trust. As it stands now, it is only the PPP that has the capability to do so," he said.

So far so good

Dr Nduom said he was highly impressed with the outcome of his campaign tour, adding that the level of support he received from the people was mind-blowing.

"Some of the constituencies I visited showed me great affection and swore to vote for me in the December 7 polls," he said.

Touching on his final campaign tour, Dr Nduom said he intended to use the last three weeks to the election to remind the electorate to turn up in their numbers to vote for the PPP.

"I want to use this period to tell them not to sit at home on December 7 but go all out to vote for a better and qualified party like the PPP," he said.

Dr Nduom, therefore, called on the electorate to use the December 7 election to vote PPP  into office, since "we are the only party determined to redeem Ghana from its current economic woes".
