Political, traditional leaders must collaborate — Speaker

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, has called for an effective collaboration between traditional and political leaders to ensure peace and the rapid development of the country.

He said chiefs were very important and instrumental in the governance of the country, hence the need for them to be acknowledged by both political parties and the citizenry.

The Speaker made the call in Accra last Saturday at the launch of the Silver Jubilee of the enstoolment of Togbui Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VI, Mamaga Miediafe II and the Agbotaduawo-Duatoklo and Blewu, all traditional leaders of Anyako-Konu in the Anlo Traditional Area in the Volta Region.

Mr Adjaho said collaboration between political and traditional leaders in the governance of the nation would lead to peace and harmony and ensure accelerated development.

He appealed to the elders and the royal family of Anyako-Konu to appreciate the efforts of their chiefs in national development.

That, he said, would encourage the chiefs to do more for the betterment of their communities in the years ahead.

“Simple recognition will greatly encourage all traditional rulers, who work tirelessly without salaries, to be serious and committed to their roles and duties to ensure peace and orderly development in their areas,” he added.

Purpose of the launch

The launch was to motivate and celebrate the achievements of the incumbent chiefs of Anyako-Konu and challenge other royal houses in the country to replicate same as an incentive for enhanced and effective performance in the years ahead.

The final event of the jubilee is slated for early 2014.

It is expected to be a traditional affair, with performances by Asafo drumming groups, cultural and youth groups.
