No winners, losers in Afoko’s case - NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked party supporters not to see the decision of the High Court to dismiss the case filed by Mr Paul Afoko against his suspension as National Chairman of the party as an opportunity to jubilate.

“There are, however, no winners and losers in this case, as far as we are concerned”, the party declared in a statement.

According to the statement signed by the Acting General Secretary, Mr John Boadu, “the High Court has held that the decision taken by the party was proper and in accordance with the party’s constitution and the rule of law. This reaffirms the truism that the NPP is built and governed on the principles of rule of law and equality before the law. No member is above the constitution of the party. We are proud of these credentials.’’

He stated that “the overwhelming majority of Ghanaians are looking up to us and we will not let them down”.

The 2016 battle

Mr Boadu, therefore, stressed that the 2016 election battle was about the people of Ghana and about the over 70 per cent of Ghanaians who were worried about the dangerous direction President John Mahama was taking the country.

"It is about the over 70 per cent of Ghanaians who believe that the President has failed to deliver. It is about his 27 per cent approval rating. It is about the killing high cost of living. It is about the President’s incompetent management of the economy that continues to cripple businesses and cost jobs.’’

Industry and agriculture

Mr Boadu said the elections were ‘’ about the failure of the real sectors of the economy, industry and agriculture, to perform. ‘’

He said it was also about the high cost of corruption, bad roads, lack of access to decent health facilities, sanitation, and education.

The acting general secretary pointed out how insensitive President Mahama had been to the plight of ordinary Ghanaians.

Alternative policies

Above all, he said, the elections were  also about the formidable leadership and alternative policies that Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP had on offer to get the country working again for every Ghanaian and not just a privileged few.

He said the NPP was determined to rescue Ghana from the incompetence, corruption and insensitivity of President John Mahama and his NDC.

"We are united, disciplined, and focused on the 2016 campaign for CHANGE and equally confident of victory come December 7.’ Mr Boadu declared.

He stated that the NPP was fortified by the strong, popular support being manifested towards the  presidential candidate  of the party in his interactions with Ghanaians across the country.

Suspension

Mr Afoko was suspended indefinitely by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party on October 23, 2015 after the party’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) had recommended his suspension.

The DC’s recommendation followed a petition by two members of the party who claimed that Mr Afoko had conducted himself in ways that had brought his position and the administration of the party into disrepute.

Mr Afoko rejected the decision of the NEC and appealed to the National Council of the party, but it dismissed his appeal.
