Nduom visits Takoradi Market Circle

Commercial  activities at Takoradi Market Circle in the Western Region last Tuesday came  to a halt when the  Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, paid a surprise visit to the market women.

Hundreds of market women and commercial drivers abandoned their activities to welcome Dr Nduom who was on a tour of the region.

The PPP presidential candidate who had addressed some issues relating to the growth of the region in a press conference, decided to hit the market to interact with the traders at Takoradi’s biggest market.

As soon as the traders spotted the Nduom-branded vehicles approaching, they started running towards his Escalade 4 x 4 vehicle.

Within five minutes, the entire market came to a halt with heavy vehicular traffic.

Unable to drive through, Dr Nduom got down from his car and walked through the market to interact with the traders.

The scene was very electrifying as almost everybody wanted to shake hands with  Dr Nduom whose white shirt was soaked in sweat.

The usual "Edwumawura" accolade did not leave the lips of the traders as they kept shouting, "Edwumawura we need you."

It took close to an hour before the large crowd of market women kept quiet to listen to Dr Nduom.

Western Region on my heart.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Nduom assured the traders that he would make sure that the region benefited from the massive resources there.

He lamented that the Western Region, with all its resources, continued to be left out in terms of infrastructure development and job creation.

"How can a region like Western struggle? Residents here have no businesses lacking anything because your region produces more than half of Ghana's wealth," Dr Nduom said.

He promised them that should he become the president, he would ensure that the region became the best in terms of development.

Dr Nduom told the market women that his administration would not let them down as the party had outlined detailed policies on how to support their businesses.

Explaining one of the policies, he said he would create a ready-made market where everyone would be able to sell their produce without any hindrance.

"I will not let the region down like President Mahama has done. I will honour the region for its contribution to the growth of Ghana's development," he said.

Press conference

Earlier, Dr Nduom said he would place an order to move the headquarters of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to Takoradi in the Western Region should he become the next president of Ghana.

According to him, “I don’t understand why GNPC should have its headquarters in Accra when the oil and gas hub is in the Western Region."

He also mentioned that he would develop the railway system in the region to meet international standards.

Dr Nduom also used the occasion to warn members of his party in the region to desist from needless encounters that could dent the PPP's image in the upcoming election.
