NDC urges NPP to call supporters to order

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to call their supporters who are attacking supporters of the NDC across the country to order if they are committed to the preservation of peace and tranquility in the country.

He urged the NPP to use due process to resolve their alleged electoral malpractices rather than embarking on violent demonstrations across the country and putting the security of the nation at risk.

Mr Nketia said this at the Brong Ahafo Regional Peace rally organised by the party at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani on Saturday to urge supporters of the party to remain calm and not to do anything untoward to help sustain the relative peace being enjoy in the country.

The General Secretary of the NDC noted that President John Dramani Mahama pledged peaceful, free and fair elections and that had been achieved. He also thanked Ghanaians for contributing to achieve that feat and maintaining the democratic credentials of the country.

He described the December 7 general election as the most peaceful, free and fair elections held in the country since the first republic in the 1960s.

He also expressed the appreciation of the NDC to all Ghanaians for comporting themselves on the election day in spite of the technical hitches that were associated with the verification machines and the security agencies for maintaining law and order on the election day.

The National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, thanked all the executives of the party—at the branch, zonal, constituency and regional levels—for working hard to ensure a one-touch victory for the party in the December 7 general election.

He described the claims by the General Secretary of the NPP on a Tema-based FM station that the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari Djan, was calling all polling agents of the NPP to bribe them as palpable falsehood and an attempt to discredit the EC.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, also used the occasion to thank the people of the region for voting massively the NDC and President Mahama in the general election, saying that the NDC was able to win 16 out of the 29 parliamentary seats in the region and also increase the vote of the President.

He pledged that the NDC government under its electoral manifesto of “Still pursuing the Better Ghana Agenda” would continue to deliver on its promises to improve infrastructure across the region and generate jobs for the people.

The Member of Parliament-elect for the Tano South Constituency and Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw, also expressed her appreciation to all who ensured the victory of the NDC in the region and the general election, which saw President Mahama being declared winner of the elections.
