The seats include Abirem, Asuogyaman, Ayensuano, Akyemansa and Suhum.

The Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, disclosed this at a rally at Suhum to launch "Agenda 50 -50", which seeks to share the total votes in the Eastern Region with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He, however, said for this to materialise, there was the need for hard work from all party faithful who must avoid complacency when campaigning for votes.

The rally, which attracted supporters of the NDC from all the 33 constituencies in the region, saw them defying heavy rains to listen to their leaders.

Dr Omane -Boamah said currently, the NDC occupied seven seats in the region, which are not enough to meet the aspirations of the party.

He commended supporters of the party for their continuing support and urged them to remain steadfast and united behind the party to win the general election in 2016.

Good works

The Minister for the Interior, Mr Mark Woyongo, said the good works of the NDC had shaken the foundation of the opposition NPP, and this would translate into votes come 2016.

"The Eastern Region is going to be the number nine region for the NDC because we had always won in eight regions of the country," he added.

A Vice-Chairman of the party, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, was of the view that the NPP had lost its grip on the Eastern Region because of the numerous projects undertaken by the NDC government.

He said the party was determined to break the hegemony of the NPP in the next general election.

The Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng, called for unity among party activists and asked them to channel their grievances to the right quarters for resolution.

He thanked the supporters for turning out in their numbers and more so defying the torrential rains.
Other speakers included Messrs Kofi Adams and Koku Anyidoho, national organiser and deputy general secretary respectively.
