MP lauds Ghanaians for peaceful elections

Dr Ahmed, who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, secured 24,477 votes for the NDC to beat Alhaji Yusif Ahmed of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 16,281. 

He pledged to continue all the pro-poor interventions that he had championed since he was elected as MP.

“We would continue building more classroom blocks, give out more scholarships and expand infrastructure to ensure that there was room for our people to develop themselves,” he said.

He said the next phase of the country’s development under the leadership of President Mahama would witness massive infrastructural growth and socio-economic development.

He said Ghanaians had renewed their support for the NDC in the December 7 election as a result of the party’s ability to deliver on a majority of its 2008 campaign promises.

Dr Ahmed said the NDC was even poised to deliver on a solid economic track record in its second term and had no doubt that it would secure for it another term in 2016.

Dr Ahmed appealed to the Electoral Commission to learn lessons from the shortfalls recorded in the usage of the BVR so as to improve on it in subsequent elections.

He was quick to add that Dr Kwadwo Afari Djan and the other members of the EC deserved the maximum credit for successfully implementing the new system.

According to him, the country’s ability to go pass the election without going down the lane of violence as was feared before the poll was highly commendable.

This, he mentioned, would further deepen Ghana’s status as a shining democracy in the sub-region.

He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of his constituency for their unflinching support and pledged not to disappoint them.

Dr Ahmed said Ghanaians had renewed their confidence in the NDC government because it had kept faith with them. He said the party had been able to deliver on most of its election promises even under the most unfavourable global economic conditions.

He said the major investments made by the NDC in it’s first term in office would pay off in the coming years, expressing confidence in the future prospects of the country.

Dr Ahmed advised Ghanaians to work at maintaining the peaceful mood in which the elections were held for the country to continue shining as a beacon of democracy on the continent and the world over.
