MCE calls for unity among assembly members

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr Opoku Boakye-Yiadom has called for unity among all assembly members to ensure the rapid development of the district.
“We need to find innovative ways of strenghtening initiatives such as the youth in agriculture and other programmes in our district”, he said.

Mr Yiadom-Boakye made the appeal in his acceptance speech soon after officials of the Elecoral Commission announced the results of his election during a special meeting meant to endorse his nomination at Berekum.

He polled 100 per cent when all the 43 assembly members voted to endorse his nomination.

Until his nomination, Mr Boakye-Yiadom, 48 was a teacher at the Tema International School.

He thanked President John Mahama and members of the assembly for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to adopt an open-door policy in his administration.

“I am here to serve and continue with efforts by my predecessors to develop the district”, he said and appealed to both resident and non-resident citizens of Berekum to assits him to be successful.

Earlier, Nana Obeng Djan, who had been elected as the Presiding Member of the assembly was sworn into office by the Berekum Circuit court Judge, Mr Yusif Asibey.

The Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Justice Samuel Adjei, commended the assembly members for showing maturity and advised that such unity should continue to ensure harmony in the administration of the district.

He called on the two members of Parliament in the district to rally behind the MCE in the execution of his duties to ensure the rapid development of the area.

Mr Adjei advised the MCE not to be partisan in his consideration since such tendencies would not augur well for the assembly.
