Lydia Akanvariba pledges to empower young women in public sector
The Minister of State-designate for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has pledged to empower young women within the ministry if her appointment is confirmed.
During her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on February 24, 2025, she expressed her commitment to mentoring and training young women, using her expertise to help them achieve their aspirations.
She made this statement when asked about initiatives she would introduce to encourage more women to take up leadership roles, particularly in politics.
Ms Akanvariba emphasised her dedication to supporting and mentoring young women to ensure they reach their full potential.

“I’m going to monitor young ladies in that ministry to become what they themselves aspire to be and to encourage them. In the old English language, they will say, the sky is the limit, but to me, there is something beyond the sky that you can go, and I will tell them to,” she stated.
