LEKMA places premium on roads construction
The Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) is placing premium on developing the roads and drainage system in the municipality.

To attain this objective, the assembly is positioning itself to receive the government’s promise of $1 million for each constituency.
The assembly has two constituencies: namely Ledzokuku and Krowor, and the two constituencies, per the promise, will receive $2 million from the government when the funds are disbursed.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) at LEKMA, Mrs Evelyn Twum-Gyamrah, who disclosed this, said although the municipality was confronted with many challenges, the assembly would focus on developing the road networks when the $1 million was disbursed.
Town hall meeting
At a town hall meeting which was held in collaboration with the ministries of Information and the Local Government and Rural Development in Accra last Thursday, Mrs Gyamrah said, “A delegation went round to ask the people in the municipality what they want to be done with the money and most of them said the road networks were bad, therefore, the money should be used to develop the roads and drains, followed by education and health. We had to prioritise the use of the money and development of the roads became very necessary.”
The town hall meeting was aimed at deepening the governance system at the local level where the locals are factored into decision-making processes.
Jobs for the youth
On jobs for the youth, Mrs Gyamrah said the assembly would build a cold store and a cannery to process and store fishes to provide jobs for the people.
“Since we are in a fishing community, we will build a cannery and a cold store to store excess fish and process some. This would create jobs for the people, while it generates extra income to the municipality. People who go to buy fish from the harbour can also purchase it here,” she added.

Youth response
At an open forum, the youth of LEKMA, however, called on the government to get them jobs in the civil and public sectors.
They said the government should provide them with jobs as it promised during the electioneering period.
One of them, who is the Head of the Ata Nii We at Teshie, Nii Marmah Markwei, said the youth had played critical roles to ensure the victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), therefore, the government should fulfil its promise and give them jobs.
“We are asking the President and executive members of the party to provide jobs for the ladies and young men who helped the party to gain power. The youth in our municipality are educated but are unemployed and it is very bad. I just want to remind the NPP executive members that the people who helped them are still at home without jobs and, therefore, we want to see action,” he added.
Involve chiefs
On behalf of the chiefs, a Chief from the Nungua Traditional Council, Nii Laryea Otu Kakaalor II asked the government to actively involve the chiefs in the local government system.
According to him, there were times that contracts were awarded to individuals in the municipality without the knowledge of chiefs. That, he observed, did not support accountability.
“We the chiefs are most at times ignored by the assemblies and ,therefore, have little idea about ongoing projects. Contracts given to individuals are sometimes not well established because there are soo many people involved and by the time it gets to the contractor, the money is reduced and ,therefore, they are unable to deliver what is expected of them. If chiefs are involved, all these things would be accounted for,” he added.
The Municipal Coordinating Director at LEKMA, Mr Kwadwo Dekpo encouraged the people to visit the assembly anytime they had contributions, suggestions and questions in order to have an inclusive local governance system.
“If you discover any tourist area we can develop it for the municipality visit the assembly and share your ideas with us so that we would factor it into our plans,” he added.
