Kyei Baffour endorsed as Bekwai MCE

The Bekwai Municipal Assembly at its sitting on Thursday has endorsed the President’s nominee, Mr Kyei Baffour, as its new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

Out of the 49 members of the assembly who voted, 41 of them representing 83.7 per cent voted YES while eight voted against his nomination.

The endorsement which was supervised by the Electoral Commission was witnessed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah and his deputy Madam Elizabeth Agyemang and other dignitaries.

Also present were three former MCE’s for Bekwai namely, Richard Aboagye, Asante Manu and the immediate past MCE Madam Mary Juantuah.

Speaking at the function, Mr Osei-Mensah commended the assembly members for the massive endorsement of the president’s nominee and urged them to support him to ensure that all good policies of the government were implemented to bring peace and development to the people.

He advised the in-coming MCE to operate an open door policy so that the people would be able to contribute their quota towards the development of the people.

The Regional Minister cautioned all in-coming Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives to avoid any act of bribery and corruption when they resume office so that they would be able to protect the public purse and prosecute the agenda of the government without any wastage.

He called on the assembly members to work as a team to ensure that all of them contribute their quota towards effective and efficient management of the assembly’s resources.

Mr Osei-Mensah reminded the MMDCE’s to avoid greediness and any other act that would bring the offices they held under disrepute as well as create any form of conflict with the people they have been assigned to lead.

Background

Until his appointment, Mr Kyei Baffour, who holds Bachelor of Arts from the University of Cape Coast was an English tutor at Asante-Mampong Saint Joseph’s Senior Secondary School in the Ashanti region.

He had since 1996 served as the Bekwai Constituency Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to 2006 and later worked as the research and electoral officer.

Addressing the people after the endorsement, Mr Kyei Baffour lauded the people for the trust repose in him and pledged to operate an open door policy so that every member of the assembly and all stakeholders would be able to contribute their quota towards the development of the area.

He also pledged to work very hard to ensure that all policies of the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government would implement to bring the much needed development for the people ad the nation as a whole.
