Former Wa MCE declares bid for NPP National Treasurer
A chartered accountant and former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Wa Municipal Assembly, Dr Issahaku Tahiru Moomin, has declared his intention to contest for the position of National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when nominations are opened.
Dr Tahiru, who served as MCE for eight years, said he was bringing to the contest his extensive experience in financial management, public administration and fund-raising.
His decision to contest has reportedly received support from sections of the party across various networks and platforms.
Vast experience
A former parliamentary candidate of the NPP for the Wa Central Constituency in the 2012 and 2016 general elections, Dr Tahiru has held several financial management positions in both the public and private sectors.
He worked with the Controller and Accountant-General's Department and also served with the Ghana Revenue Authority.
In addition, he held various finance-related positions within the Ghana Health Service, including serving as Head of Finance at a number of health facilities across the country, particularly in the Ashanti Region.
Currently, he works as an international business agent, facilitating financial transactions for organisations and private clients.
Expertise
Supporters of Dr Tahiru believe his professional background and practical experience in financial administration make him well-suited for the position of National Treasurer.
They point to his knowledge of public financial management laws, financial regulations and institutional financial governance as qualities that could strengthen the party's financial management systems.
Background
The NPP is expected to elect new national executives at its National Delegates Conference scheduled for September 18 to 20, 2026, as part of the party's nationwide reorganisation exercise.
Nominations for national executive positions are expected to open from August 10 to 14, 2026, followed by filing, vetting and appeals processes ahead of the elections.
The election will form the final stage of the party's internal electoral process, which began with membership reorganisation and grassroots elections across the country.
