Founders’ or founder’s debate needless — JOY

An Independent Presidential Candidate in the 2016 and 2012 elections, Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah aka JOY, has reiterated his call for inclusiveness in the governance process as the way to go to build national consensus and development.

He insisted that “partisanship approach to governance will rather slow the pace of national progress and development.”

In a telephone chat with the Daily Graphic yesterday, JOY waded into the controversy stirred by the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye.

Delivering a lecture on the 70th anniversary of the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) in Accra on the theme:"4th August; Ghana's Day of Destiny, Prof. Oquaye disagreed with the dedication of a day to be the Founder's Day in honour of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

He argued that Dr Nkrumah could not be credited to be the sole founding father of Ghana since the struggle for independence was started by other prominent Ghanaians.

Founders debate needless

But in the view of JOY, the debate on whether there is a founder’s or founders’ of Ghana was needless at this moment, saying “this is not what we need in Ghana  with so many socio-economic challenges and difficulties.”

He wondered why a Speaker of Parliament should put himself in such great controversy.

“As the chair of Parliament and a neutral arbiter, the Speaker should not have gone into the centre of such controversy,” JOY pointed out and asked “what political advantage do we want to achieve or seek?”

Political ideologies

Throughout the global world, JOY indicated that “political ideologies are gone” and “there is no longer extreme right wing or left wing; they no longer work in the scheme of affairs.’’

He said most of the developed countries were finding solutions and sending signals of weakness in political ideologies when electing their leaders.

JOY cited the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Australia and South Korea as some of the countries that were all finding ways to deal with this.

He particularly singled out France as having accentuated its readiness to embrace future leadership such as the French Revolution and has massively elected Mr Emmanuel Macron without a political ideological orientation but appropriate leadership principles.

All-inclusive governance

He recalled that just about nine months ago during the 2016 election, most political parties in the country hijacked and trumpeted ‘’All-inclusive governance.’’

However, the various comments from these political parties lately have exposed their real appreciation of all-inclusive governance.

JOY advocated the need for the country’s leadership to work together and encourage patriotism, as well as discipline to inject accelerated economic growth.

“I will encourage President Akufo-Addo to have the courage to improve on the meagre attempt of all-inclusive governance in order to foster strength towards nation building through creation of wealth,” he emphasised.

He further pointed out that secure leadership, filled with love and principles would overcome the feeling of suspicion, stating that the whole good governance principle is about the good of the nation Ghana and nothing else.
