Bury political differences — Ama Frimpong

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to bury their political differences and offer practical support for development initiatives by the government to improve the quality of life of the people.

She said since politics was for development and not for retrogression, Ghanaians should not politicise or sabotage any interventions geared towards the progress of the nation simply because they were not initiated by their governments.

Ms Frimpong made the call when she addressed a grand durbar to climax the celebration of the annual Kwakwaduam festival by the chiefs and people of Akyem Aperade in the Eastern Region.

She advised the people to sustain the prevailing peace in the country since peace was a recipe for stability and development.

Mr Frimpong said the success or otherwise of chiefs was inextricably linked to solving problems of mankind showing affection, care and love to humanity, and, therefore, urged them to strive to achieve those values.

“Let us remember that the authority and power vested in the chief, coupled with determination, genuine respect and affection for the people can effectively lead to progress and development of the community,” she said.

The deputy regional minister, therefore, enjoined all traditional rulers to join the government to fight environmental degradation and promote good sanitation practices.

She also admonished chiefs in particular and the people in general to lead the crusade in the fight against moral decadence and indiscipline.

The Aperadehene, Obrempong Twum Owusu Twum Barima I, appealed to the government to assist in developing the numerous tourist attractions in the area to create employment avenues for the youth.

He announced that his wife, with support from a US-based non-governmental organisation would launch a programme to assist orphans and widows in the area.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bririm South, Nana Baffour Mensah Takyi, disclosed that the government had absorbed the private community senior high school at Aperade.

He mentioned a number of development projects the government had undertaken in the town to bring relief to the people.
