In a radio interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme Friday afternoon, Mr Agyapong said an informant had gone to Mr Ephson about the plot kill him [Agyapong].

Ostensibly, the informant wanted Mr Ephson to publish a story to that effect in his newspaper but Mr Ephson rather gave the information to the then Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Alhassan, who arranged security for Mr Agyapong.

Mr Agyapong who was speaking on KABA’s programme in reaction to Mr Ibrahim Mahama’s recent interaction with the Economic and Organised Crime Office in relation to some cheques issued to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Mr Agyapong had complained to EOCO that Mr Mahama issued dud cheques and wanted him investigated

Mr Ben Ephson on his part confirmed story saying: “This account is true.”

“Through our journalistic work, we get a lot of information from informants. One of them approached me and told me that some persons have plotted to assassinate Ken, and, so, I should do a story like that but I decided not to do that story. Instead, I informed the then-IGP, Mohammed Alhassan, about it. I did not even tell Kennedy himself about the issue because I knew how he was going to react to such news. So I handed over the informant to the IGP and left it there.

“The matter later went to court and the police wanted to take credit for foiling such an assassination, but the informant told the court it wasn’t the police but that I foiled it.

“So to cut the story short, yes some people wanted to assassinate Kennedy Agyapong a few years ago.”
