Asokore Mampong endorses Alhaji Alidu Seidu as MCE
After failing in his first attempt to get the endorsement of the assembly members, President Akufo-Addo’s nominee as the Municipal Chief Executive for Askore-Mampong, Alhaji Alidu Seidu, on Thursday got a 100 per cent endorsement.

In the first instance, the nominee secured seven YES votes out of the total of 15.
Since he did not get more than 50 percent he could not immediately go for a second round and waited till the President re-nominated him for a second time consideration.
At Thursday voting, Alhaji Seidu got the endorsement of all 15 members of the assembly, made up of 10 elected and five government appointees.
There was a heavy police presence at the palace of the Asokore-Mamponghene which served as the venue for the election of the MCE.
Last Friday, when the nominee failed to get 50 percent of the votes cast, which in a way, scuttled his chance of second round of voting unless renominated by the president, there was a hold up between his supporters and those of the incumbent MP, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak.
His supporters were pointing accusing fingers at him for masterminding his ‘rejection’ by the assembly.
And in order to forestall any confrontation between the two parties, the police deployed men to the area to provide security and to maintain law and order.
Asokore-Mampong is dominated by the opposition National Democratic Congress and falls under the Asawasi constituency currently occupied by the NDC’s Muntaka as MP.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Seidu expressed his gratitude to the assembly members for the trust reposed in him and pledged to work to advance the cause of the municipality.
He said even though he is the head of the assembly, “you the assembly members would be doing the greater part of the works”.
He said he was opened for advice and asked the members not to hesitate to draw his attention whenever he was going ‘wayward’.
