Asempaneye chief prays for NDC win

The Omanhene of Awaso Asempaneye, Nana Okotwansuo Ekyeabema III, says his people are working and praying for a John Mahama victory in the 2020 presidential election.

According to him, the people of Asempaneye saw Mr Mahama as a redeemer, urging all Ghanaians to give their votes to him.

SpeakOut

A statement issued by the Communications Office of the former President said Nana Ekyeabema was speaking during a courtesy call on him by the NDC flagbearer as part of his #SpeakOut tour of the Western North Region.

The #SpeakOut tour is an opportunity for the NDC leader to meet, interact and listen directly to the people of Ghana.

Former President Mahama was accompanied by the party’s National Chairman, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the regional chairman, Mr Michael Adu.

Projects

The statement said Nana Ekyeabema commended former President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the massive development projects across the country.

It said the chief specifically mentioned the provision of a CHPS compound for his community and the start of work on the Awaso town roads in particular.

According to the statement, Nana Ekyeabema said the people of Awaso Asempaneye were looking forward to the NDC expanding the CHPS compound into a hospital and completing the Awaso town roads.

It said the contract for the road works was abrogated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government on assumption of office in 2017.

Challenges

The statement said former President Mahama thanked the chief and his people for the acknowledgement of the contributions of the NDC, adding that he was aware of the challenges cocoa farmers faced in the region and would take measures to tackle them.

It added that the NDC flag bearer had said the decision to sell fertiliser to cocoa farmers was insensitive and affecting the output of cocoa production.

According to the statement, Mr Mahama said major development projects, especially roads in the Western North Region, were executed by the NDC from the era of President J. J. Rawlings through President John Evans Atta Mills.

Mr Mahama, it said, indicated that at the time of exiting office in 2016, many contracts had been awarded for the upgrading of roads, stressing that those contracts had either been abrogated or stopped by the NPP government.
