“Warm congratulations Boris Johnson on your decisive, historic win. We have an opportunity, together, to renew and strengthen the relations between our two countries, focusing on enhancing trade and investment, and scaling up prosperity for our peoples. The common democratic aspirations and values of our two nations provide us with a strong platform for going forward. The Ghanaian people and I wish you the very best of luck and lots of success in the future”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative party won a large majority in the House of Commons, taking 364 seats out of 650 —a gain of nearly 50 seats since 2017 and the party’s biggest majority since the era of Margaret Thatcher. The Labour Party won just 203 seats, losing nearly 60 since its strong showing two years ago.

The snap election was called to end the political deadlock over Brexit and it appears that Johnson’s election bet paid off: the results give him the major victory needed to push his Brexit deal through Parliament.
