Acheampong confirmed MCE for New Juaben
A lecturer of the Koforidua Polytechnic, Dr Kwaku Owusu Acheampong, who was nominated by the President for the position of Chief Executive for the New Juaben Municipality, has been confirmed by the assembly.

He polled 56 out of the 77 votes cast, representing 73 per cent of the ballot, which is more than the two-thirds votes needed to carry the day.
Dr Acheampong contested the New Juaben South Constituency seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s Dr Mark Asibey Yeboah in the 2012 general election.
He replaces Mr Alex Asamoah, who did not apply for re-nomination.
In a victory speech shortly after he had been declared victorious by Mr Paul Boateng, the Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Dr Acheampong pledged to unite the rank and file of the NDC in the New Juaben South Constituency.
He also pledged to continue the good works of his predecessor to bring development to the people in the area.
Dr Acheampong expressed his appreciation to President Mahama for nominating him and the assembly members, as well as the rank and file of the NDC, for their support.
The regional minister, Mrs Helen Adjoa Ntoso, asked the new MCE to follow the assembly’s action plan which, she said, had been geared for the provision of social amenities for the people.
The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Mavis Frempong, praised the out-going MCE, Mr Alex Asamoah, for working so hard to improve the living conditions of the people in the area.
Earlier, the assembly elected one of its members, Mr Michael Sarpong Boadi, to be the Presiding Member.
He beat another contestant, Mr George Abdul Dramani, by 62 to 12 votes.
