Abuga Pele will go independent — supporters threaten

Supporters of the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency in the Upper East Region, Mr Abuga Pele, have vowed to compel the MP to contest the 2016 parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

The supporters stressed that “Mr Pele has what it takes to win the seat owing to his support base, humility, hard work and the goodwill he continues to enjoy from the people in the Chiana-Paga Constituency.”

At a press conference at Paga on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the group, Mr Michael Gantera, emphasised that "our dear Abuga Pele will surely emerge winner in the upcoming election to represent the constituency and continue the good work he has done for the people. We know what we want and we shall surely go in for it, but only through legitimate means; however, we will advise ourselves if the legitimate means cannot get us what we want."

Mr Gantera said “the constituents are bruised in the heart and wish to state in unequivocal terms that Abuga Pele will retain the seat in 2016 as an independent candidate to continue to pursue the interest of the people regardless of whichever party wins the presidency."

Sack DCE

The group also gave the government a one-week ultimatum to dismiss the Kassena Nankana West District Chief Executive, Mr George Nonterah, for his alleged "incompetence and misconduct" that were likely to affect the NDC's electoral fortunes in the 2016 general election.

They further pointed accusing fingers at the DCE for his role in the defeat of the incumbent MP in the primary and alleged that his actions rather gave Lawyer Rudolf Amenga-Etego an upper hand to win the primary.

The DCE has not been helpful to the party because "he does not attend youth and community programmes but rather attends funerals and inaugurates projects. He has also waded into the electoral controversy."
