The donation was a collaboration between the foundation and its partners –TERUMO BCT.

Gen. Obasanjo and his partners were also present at KATH to witness the ground-breaking research.

The research is also intended to purify blood, improve its quality and prevent malaria transmission through blood transfusion.

The visit was also meant to evaluate the capability of the Mirasol WB system and motivate the KATH medical staff to focus on the research works.

This, according to the researchers, is not only meant to speed up the recovery of patients on admission but also to enhance primary healthcare delivery at the hospital.

The foundation, established a year ago to promote healthcare delivery across Africa, is collaborating with the management of KATH to conduct research works intended to destroy malaria parasites from blood donated to the hospital.

Gen. Obasanjo expressed delight with the research and gave an assurance to continue supporting it.

He expressed the hope of extending the outcome of the research into the entire African continent as his contribution to combat malaria on the continent.

While commending the management of KATH for its collaboration, Gen. Obasanjo stated that he expected that those participating in the research would build their capacity more meaningfully to enable them to support healthcare delivery in Ghana and other parts of the continent.
