‘Make use of quality medical technologies’
Hospitals and healthcare professionals have been advised to make use of quality and standard medical technologies to improve healthcare in the country.
The use of quality medical technology will not only build trust and confidence in the medical lab results but will also help in the correct treatment of diagnosed cases.

According to the Managing Director of Flokefama Company Limited, dealers in hospital supplies, Mr. Kenney Teye Kwabena, the use of below standard medical technologies, especially regarding precision and quality control, sometimes led to inaccurate results.
“The precision and quality control in most equipment in the hospitals is lacking. That is why most people go for laboratory test and they do not trust the veracity of the test they are given,” he said.
Mr. Kwabena made this known at a seminar to sensitise laboratory technicians to the use of medical technologies and laboratory equipment.
Sensitisation
The seminar, held in Accra last Wednesday (September 23), was organised by Flokefama in partnership with Mindray, a medical device company.
It brought together laboratory heads, hospital directors and experts to share their experiences and knowledge on medical technologies and laboratory equipment and how they are impacting health delivery.
Test equipment
A past President of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr. Ignatius Awinibuno, said for hospitals to gain the trust of clients, there was the need to provide efficient, affective and affordable healthcare.
He entreated laboratory technicians to test medical technologies to ensure they met the needed requirements before putting them to use.
“We must ensure that we subject the equipment to the necessary assessment to be sure that it is not giving us the wrong results or output.
We need to test that they meet the legal, safety and technical requirements before we put them to use,” the former head of the Ghana Medical Laboratory Scientists emphasised.
Tele health
Mr. Awinibuno further said the country should expedite the integration of tele health into its health system.
“The use of tele medicine and tele health is needed to interact with clients even from their home without necessarily meeting them physically to save the cost of movement,” he said.
For his part, the Manager of Flokefama/Mindray expressed the hope that call centres relating to medical equipment and support services would be established and expanded to address needs regarding medical technologies and equipment.
