Greater Accra Region to enforce COVID-19 protocols
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey, has called for the mandatory adherence to all COVID-19 safety protocols at all events and at all times in the region.
He has also directed all security councils in the various assemblies to embark on routine checks at public places, including schools, lorry stations, markets and public transports, especially in trotros, to ensure that there was strict compliance.

The directives formed part of efforts to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols in the region.
In a statement he issued in Accra yesterday, he said the directive was in compliance with the 26th presidential address on COVID-19 given by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr Quartey also directed that all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies should collaborate with their respective police commanders and other security apparatus in ensuring that all activities associated with funerals were held in open air spaces and not exceed the two-hour duration.
Other directives
Other specific details of the directives were that all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) should with immediate effect reactivate their District Public Health Emergency Management Committees in the fight against the pandemic. MMDAs should also ensure that individuals or group of persons who breach these protocols are arrested, fined or prosecuted according to the law to serve as a deterrent to others. All MMDAs should, as a matter of urgency, start their sensitisation programmes on COVID-19 and its safety protocols as a wake-up call for all.
Supervisory role
Mr Quartey gave the directive in his additional capacity as the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Committee.
He is taking the step in collaboration with the Regional Police Command and the Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service.
Mr Quartey said the Regional Coordinating Council would continue to play its supervisory role with random spot checks on all public places.
“However, we appeal to our revered traditional, political, religious and opinion leaders to be at the forefront of this drive and campaign in order to curtail this steep increases of COVID-19 cases in the region,” he said.
