Cholera kills 5 people in Kasoa, 30 others on admission
A Cholera outbreak at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region has resulted in the death of five persons.
About 30 others are also on admission at Kasoa Polyclinic and the Mother and Child Hospital as a result of the outbreak.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Anita Love Obo Amissah, who made this known, said three of the the victims died on Thursday night [Oct 31] while two of them also died on Friday afternoon.
"As I speak to five persons have unfortunately lost their lives because of this disease," she told journalists after touring the Kasoa Polyclinic last Friday.

She said most of the cases that occurred at the Kasoa New Market Health Centre were referred to the Kasoa Polyclinic.
As of Thursday, she said the cases was about 21 and on Friday the number of cases was almost 30.
She commended the doctors and nurses at the Kasoa Polyclinic who had been able to manage most of the cases that were brought there.
"But the good news is that the doctors and nurses are doing very well - they have managed a lot of people and by the grace of God they are fine," she said.

Ms Amissah advised people living and around the municipality to be very careful of what they eat, adding that they should ensure that they ate food that was hot and washed their hands regularly.
She also lauded the Central Regional Director for coming to the area to assist with how to manage patients affected by the disease.
The Municipal Health Director and doctors, she said had also done a "yeo man's job" throughout Thursday and Friday and that they as aid all those that are on leave have also been recalled"
She said while the doctors, nurses and other health workers try to manage the situation, resident should also be careful so that the disease would not spread further.

She said Gomoa East District and the Awutu Senya West District has also recorded cases that were being referred to Kasoa.
She expressed the hope by the end of last weekend things would has improved.

Ms Amissah appealed to persons with symptoms of the disease to report to the hospital for treatment before things got out of hands

For his part, the Awutu Senya East Municipal Environmental officer, Godson Lodo called on members to be careful about the food they buy outside.
Food vendors, he said should ensure personal hygiene.
