'Access health care at private clinics'

Mahama Ayariga - Information MinisterNational Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cardholders have been asked to access private or mission clinics or hospitals that accept the cards for medical attention.

A statement signed by the Minister of Information and Media Relations, Mr Mahama Ayariga, said health insurance cards were not for only government hospitals and pharmacies.

“There are hundreds of such private and mission clinics and hospitals across the country and government believes there is no reason for people to suffer because the doctors in government facilities have decided to embark on a strike for no justified reason,” it said.

It said the Ministry of Health had been directed to liaise with the Ministry of Defence to ensure that the 37 Military Hospital operated at full capacity in order to handle the expected large number of patients.

“Doctors at the 37 Military Hospital will also be pooled and seconded to the Ridge and the Korle-Bu Teaching hospitals to assist with out-patient department services,” it said.
