Youth Enterprises Support begins operations

The Youth Enterprises Support (YES) started operating yesterday, less than 24 hours after the initiative was launched by President John Dramani Mahama.

Officials of YES said they were ready to receive applications from prospective beneficiaries.

Yesterday, the President spent about half an hour touring the secretariat located at South Legon in Accra, to acquaint himself with its operations.

The Chief Executive Officer of YES, Mr Kojo Adu-Asare, who is a former Member of Parliament for Adentan, gave the president a briefing about their preparations.

President Mahama also interacted with the management and staff. He did not make a speech.

The secretariat can be accessed online, at www.yes.gov.gh.

YES is the flagship youth development programme of the Mahama administration.

Beneficiaries

The YES, which is targeted at Ghanaian youth between the ages of 18 and 35, is to support them to build on their talents and entrepreneurial skills.

An initial amount of GH¢10 million has been set aside to be accessed by qualified persons.

At the launch of the initiative at the State Banquet Hall last Tuesday night, President Mahama said a beneficiary must be able to produce a business idea that should create at least five jobs.

Again, a beneficiary business must be situated in Ghana and must employ Ghanaians.

CEO

Mr Adu-Asare told the President that they had prepared very well to ensure that YES would achieve its noble objectives.

He promised that they would be transparent in their activities in order to gain the necessary public confidence.

The CEO thanked the President for the confidence reposed in him and pledged that he and his team would live up to expectation.
