Why Nayele did not appeal her sentence – Defense lawyer explains
The Defense Lawyer for Nayele Ametefe the jailed Austrian – Ghanaian lady convicted for illegally smuggling cocaine from Accra to London in November last year, Mr. James Scobie QC has explained why his client did not appeal against her sentence.

He noted that there was no need for appeal against the sentence for she (Nayele) was ready to serve the sentence.
Mr. Scobie was however quick to add “she will serve half her sentence before she will be released on license for the rest of the sentence (four years four months).
Mr. Scobie’s assertion on this matter to Graphiconline’s correspondent in London, Nana Sifa Twum dispels rumors that Nayele Ametefe intended to appeal her sentence handed to her by the Isleworth Crown Court in Middlesex, London on January 7, 2015.
He said, “due to client confidentiality I am restricted in what I can say however, I can say there will be no appeal against her sentence.”
The 32 year-old Ghanaian/Austrian who pleaded guilty to carrying 12 kilos of cocaine to the United Kingdom was sentenced to eight years, eight months’ imprisonment on her own plea on an earlier court date.
Nayele appeared in court on the day of her sentence well dressed in black designer top with peach designs with black trouser to match.
She looked confident and not with any sign of sorrow and exhibiting great outfit of Brazilian finch hair worn up to the edge of her eye brawl
For the one hour 5 minutes court session she only confirmed her name and age as dedicated from the prosecutor’s sheet, the rest was with the lawyer Mr. Scobie QC who was hailed by expects as very good due to the professional delivery of mitigating requests which influenced his client’s sentence.
The Presiding Judge at Courtroom 7 at the Isleworth Crown Court, on that faithful day, Judge Edmonds acknowledged that the accuse should have been jailed for 13 years but for Nayele’s situation as presented by Mr. Scobie.
At the hearing the prosecutor, Ravinder Johal, told the court that Nayele had $23,000 and an additional £6,000 in her handbag when she was arrested.
This was payment for carrying the stuff from Accra to London.
A situation, which will again, send Nayele to court on the July 6, 2015 for a decision on confiscation of the amount.
Mr. Scobie hinted “I am instructed to appear for her in the confiscation hearing.”
It was also revealed in court that Nayele was carting the drug to South America and that what was found on her was not meant to be consumed in the UK as her travelling itinerary suggested that she was leaving London in two days from the day she was arrested to the Dominican Republic.
