We are still on strike - JUSAG

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) says its members will remain on an indefinite strike despite a directive by the Management of the Judicial Service for it to call off the "illegal" action.

JUSAG on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, declared an indefinite strike over what it described as failure of the government to review the salaries of its members.

However, the management of the Judicial Service in a press release on Wednesday, November 13 directed that the strike declared illegal by the National Labour Commission be called off with immediate effect.

"The Management of the Judicial Service has noted with concern, that in spite of the National Labour Commission, on the 12th of November 2019 declaring the intended strike of Judicial Service Staff Association (JUSAG) illegal, JUSAG proceeded to embark upon a strike action on 13 November 2019," the Judicial Service press release said.

"We, therefore, call on all staff of the Judicial Service to report to work with immediate effect. All Judges and Magistrates are also requested to attend work as usual. Management advises the general public that all courts are functioning and are open for service".

JUSAG in response to the Management of Judicial Service said it disagrees with the directive and its members will remain on strike until the implementation of the negotiated salary reviews are done by the Judicial Council.

"We write to state that we RESPECTFULLY disagree with the position taken by Management," JUSAG said in a statement said its General Secretary, Derrick Annan.

"Our members shall, therefore, remain on strike to demand the implementation of the negotiated salary reviews done by the Judicial Council".
